ASUS Zephyrus G14 Ryzen 7 4800HS Review:
First lets talk about the Hardware Part and Built of the laptop, you can skip this part if you are looking for Software one but lets start with how machine is build first, we see what you get inside as well but a bit later.
Asus Zephyrus G14 Hardware Review-
Body, Cooling, Ports, Internals
Asus Zephyrus ROG G14 Built is made of Aluminium Alloy which is the main plus point of this laptop as it has a great tough built with no flexing bends or cracking even with rough use. Hinges are solid and can be handled with one hand, it has magnetic strip at the bottom keypad side which sticks to each other when you pack it up makes a locking mechanism to prevent it from dust from outside.
Vents are everywhere on Zephyrus G14, right-left-bottom and even between screen and typing area so if compared to ASUS TUF A15, this one has better cooling vents overall. Even-Heat Pipes are enough if you check internals with Anti-Dust self-cleaning fans which is nice for cleanliness.
You get expandability slots for RAM after opening back panel and everything is covered with black shield film to protect from dust. You cant expand storage but its OK (external HDD will help in that).
Ports are also available as you can check in Specs area so leaving Ethernet Port there almost all ports you must need, yeah no Card Reader & Disc Drive is also missing on this one. Moreover, we were looking for Ethernet Port because it’s much needed sometimes in many cases. ASUS maybe forget to add or was it personal that’s a question for a gaming laptop.
Keyboard, Display, Touchpad
The keyboard is Chicklet style with good key travel, adjustable backlit (non-RGB-just White), tactile and chunky with every press, good space inside to give you palm rest. The touchpad is responsive and accurate, Numpad is not there, another thing that gamers might miss here.
Inside power-button you also get Fingerprint scanner to secure your laptop from misuse and in our test it worked 7/10times so it’s pretty good. You also get indicating LEDs on ASUS Zephyrus G14 near power button but it’s somehow not so perfectly positioned because how will you look inside if you have kept it on standby & it gets discharge indication (a wrong move here).
The display is quite good, punchy, colourful and good to see on Zephyrus G14 with a very slight Warm Tint (ignorable) at good viewing angles. Its Adaptive-Sync feature works great with anti-glare coating to protect the display and enhance the experience.
Webcam, Speakers, Anime-Matrix, Weight
On Zephyrus G14 you don’t get any Webcams as they could give like Honor Book but no webcams on this one, Speakers are Dolby Built with a deep bass booming effect with crisp Sound Quality (that we loved personally and found best over any laptop).
Anime Matrix is the coolest part of this laptop and one of unique as well that makes it stand out, you can customise its effects from your name to sync with the audio. But it only blinks in white color so if you are in dark then it works quite well. Although you will not be able to see it as you are using a laptop but the person on the other side gets impressed.
Weight balance is also pretty good, G14 is of around 1.5KGs in Metalic built but weight balance feels like very light and can be carried one-handedly without any problem so in that part as well ASUS has done a great job.
Asus Zephyrus G14 Software Review-
In Software we were satisfied with it performance as Zephyrus G14 comes with a trial version of MS Office inbuilt and you can extend it with purchase, no other junk software were found with a clean experience and some ASUS essential apps that must be needed to control laptop or just to help you like ASUS Aura Sync etc.
Out of the box, you get some updates that are suggested to be updated under the Updates section so it can keep itself up to date with all your data.
Nothing much was there in part of Software section, still, we say smoothness of machine is licious because of hardware fitted on board no lacks were found on any performance leaving gaming part.
Should you Buy Asus Zephyrus G14?
Depends on the purpose you want to purchase its laptop, if you want to buy it for editing purpose or daily use then its a good machine, if you looking it forward for gaming then do read the rest.
Even if you are a person who wants to do editing/designing/coding, etc. stuff on this machine so it can handle it fabulously without any such big problem keeping itself cool at an avg heating meter. The only thing a person can notice is its warm tint which is very slight that’s negligible almost to null until you don’t compare it with other similar displays, otherwise for Creators/Editors this one good.
For Gamers, you must focus here. The temperature rises up to 80-85 Degree Celcius on this laptop if you run it on full throttle at turbo mode. Even after having dual-Tripple heat pipes it fails to control the heating issue which was surprising as vents and cooling system is good on this one.
For y’all 85Degrees isn’t a low temp score so you can face difficulties while typing or using the keyboard when its hot so from this, you can expect how hot it becomes.
One more thing which we noticed is it lacks if you play games on performance mode or plugout charger in between the game. The shuttering is so drastically dangerous you feel playing on old PC just in seconds.
If you want smooth experience so you have to keep the charger plugged in & have to keep it on turbo mode, especially if a Heavy game is running like GTA 5, COD, etc. with high graphics.
It isn’t like laptop not picking up parts potential but still fails to perform, with such a good GPU, CPU and thermals in gaming it fails in our score. If we want to give a rating so 7.5/10 in Gaming to ASUS Zephyrus G14.
For Benchmarks and live performance check Videos embedded above to get some better idea.
Now final Question comes, Should you go for it? The answer is, it Depends…Why?
As we mentioned it is a good machine but not the best for gaming, otherwise you will enjoy it totally due to its amazing design, anime matrix & feel it provides but investing for gaming might leave you disappointed.
We suggest you look forward to a PC that can be a beast under this range or just find alternatives, we have some that you can look below.
Alternatives of ASUS Zephyrus G14
- Lenovo Legion 5Pi 10th Gen Intel Core i7- Buy
- HP Omen 10th Gen Intel Core i7 Processor- Buy
- ASUS ROG Strix G15 (10th Gen i7-10750H)- Buy
- MSI Gaming GL65 Leopard- Buy
- ASUS ROG Strix G17 17.3″ FHD 120Hz Intel Core i7-10750H 10th Gen, GTX 1660Ti 6GB Graphics- Buy
Overall it’s a good laptop if you are looking for a premium category that’s mobile-friendly, stylish, strong, etc., but if looking for a laptop on which you can do hardcore gaming so then we don’t recommend it much because it’s not a midranger or low-end Laptop, it’s expensive and premium.
Headphone Jack Audio Quality, Speakers, Built, Performance, all are decent on this but it doesn’t worth 1.45Lakh so far. Else as we always say, Consumer is the King & we just give suggestions to provide you info related to the product.
-Thanks for Reading.
